Northshore | Beach House - Hayling Island, Hampshire
The 66msq beach house creates a link between the main house and the waterfront of Langstone Harbour, providing a conduit between the activities of the home and the water. The structure sits beneath a large Cyprus tree,, nestled in amongst a group of elegant, coastal oak trees; the striking rain-screen cladding in black glass contrasts with the white render of the main house and merges into the dark evergreen backdrop of the tree behind.
The building layout creates a flexible room with a small kitchen facility that offers dining and lounging space by the water's edge. To the rear of the main space we have located a bar of support accommodation, housing a shower, WC and storage space. The building is set within a series of sustainably-sourced hardwood decks, which create a variety of external seating areas, including a sunken deck, which offers protection from the prevailing winds.
