Rose Cottage is an attractive 300 year old flint and thatched house located in north Dorset, on the outskirts of Lower Ansty.
rak architecture were appointed to extend and declutter the house by replacing the various additions with one coherent extension. The proposed design solution is inspired by examples of local longhouses.
The choice of materials reflect both the original house, the local rural vernacular and a sustainable low-tech agenda. The detailing is simple and robust and in keeping with local character but without attempting to create a pastiche of the original cottage.
