Westbourne Road- Weymouth
The existing Grade II listed Georgian building forms part of an attractive short terrace of 3 identical listed townhouses. The front of the homes are all identical with elegant proportions, incorporating deep window reveals and a characterful first floor oriel window. The detailing of the houses introduces a traditional contrasting mix of black and white features.
The rear of the house extends back extensively into its rear garden. These extensions were added at various times during the mid to late twentieth century.
The design approach seeks to replace the poorly built incongruous rear structures with a minimal glazed pavilion-like addition. The new glazed structure creates a continuous ‘ribbon of glass’ to the garden edge and so maximises visual connectivity, whilst minimising visual clutter. The design uses a combination of black back-painted glass and white painted brick to draw on the historic black and white character of the original home.
